Keep Calm And Keep Ballin

A lot of people have been telling me to try. TRY HARDER.

try++;

Yes, yes and yes. I get it. Or so I thought. Or I just hate the fact that I am being scolded.

But I get it. In fact, I've memorized all their lines.
"There's no harm in trying."

"Trying is NOT futile."

"A winner never stops trying"

...the list goes on and on and on but I keep on ignoring them.

Why?

I don't know. Maybe I'm just stubborn like that. Maybe I'm just not a "winner" material. Maybe I am. Maybe I lack motivation. Maybe I'm just afraid of failure. I don't like pressure. Wait, sometimes I like it though. I am not confident but I let other people think otherwise. I know I'm smart. I mean, I'm no genius but I sure am not stupid.

There's a lot of reasons why I am not in the pursuit of, let's say, "trying". Just like how Dirk is satisfied with where he is in Dallas. Just like how Duncan did not test the free agency market. Errr, this is not a good analogy. These are veteran players and I'm just in my 3rd year in the "league".

Where I am right now is not that bad. Well, it may not be the best as well but it isn't as bad as it may look like.

Ricky Rubio was #5. He didn't play in the NBA immediately. He was not ROY but he did well during his first season. At some point he got injured but I heard he'll be ready for the next season. I don't know how he will fare in his next year but the future is definitely bright for him.*wink wink* Plus, he is happy and Khan is not a bad GM at all. The Timberwolves' market is not as huge as the Lakers' but I like their chances. And oh, Rubio's salary is above average for a contract year. I think only Tyreke, Griffin (Errr, this man is special) and James Harden have bigger paychecks than him.

I say, I'm gonna keep ballin' until I don't feel like playing for this team anymore.

...or if someone offers me something that I cannot resist. #YouKnowWhatItIs

I am Kat, the living epitome of "Juan Tamad". I am waiting for a ripened guava to drop in my mouth. And I'm going to get scolded again after someone reads this.

ToS

My ears stopped listening after the words,

"I didn't sign up for this".

The rest of the sentences were like fireworks of harsh words that went in and out of my ears.

The statements were too hurtful to be quoted completely but the words are too strong that even without the statements, I can still remember how it felt while they were being spoken.

The words were so strong even my mind was not able to store it. It's just too heavy to take. And on the other hand, too heavy for you to lift.

I don't care what you say. Call me whatever you want. Too much drama? Maybe. Fuck it, this is my blog and I'm free to let it all out here.

Attention Whore

Hola!

This is a post using my phone because I am that addicted to sharing.

Anyway, I am currently here in our province being lazy after drinking last night.

I just want to say that...

I am an attention whore. Hahahaha. OMG. I just realized that I literally tweet everything that is happening to me. Even the littlest thoughts which I think I shall never share. Even the lyrics of the song that is currently stuck in my head. When I am overjoyed, I tweet in all caps. When I am sad, I post short tweets.

I don't know if people get annoyed already. They can unfollow any time they want to. :P

And the fact that I shared here that I am writing through my phone is a proof in itself that I do, indeed, overshare. Even the nonsense ones.

Feel Good Inc.

Funny how those people who don't always talk to you suddenly send you sms or tweets asking if everything is okay. I guess people are naturally good.

Of course there are those who by default are always there to show you that they care as well.

It just feels good to know that there are people who care. Regardless of how frequent you keep in touch or how little your conversations were before.

Switching From SVN to Git

So my boss asked us to change our version control system from SVN to Git. The way I understand it, the biggest difference between the two lies in the way they store the data. In SVN, only the central repository stores the complete history and data while in Git all clients have a copy of their own as well.

SVN

  • has more user-friendly UI

  • easier to manage because there is only one legit copy of the whole system

  • since it has a single central repo, it is easier to give read and write access controls for the entire project

Git

  • if in case the data are lost due to system failure, only the changes which were unique to that repository are lost

  • a complete copy of the repository data stored locally, thereby making access to file extremely fast

  • faster since all operations are local (except some) there is no network latency involved

  • repository and working directory sizes are smaller compared to SVN

  • do not have to give commit access to other people in order for them to use the versioning features

Android Life: One ROM At A Time

I finally was able to root my phone and flash a custom ROM to it. I guess I am finally living the Android life to its maximum potential.

To those of you who are like me a few weeks ago. Here are the basic terms that you need to know:

ROOTING

Rooting your device means having a "superuser" rights and permissions to your Android’s software. For programmers, it's synonymous to entering the "su" in the Linux command line. For the non-programmers, think of it as a superpower which will enable you to do tasks that have been inherently blocked by the mobile phone makers for siplicity and security. (ie. increase the performance of your Android phone and load custom themes and software)

ROM

ROM literally stands for Read Only Memory. There are 2 types of ROM: stock and custom. Stock is the original version that comes with your phone when you buy it. Meanwhile, custom ROM is customized by someone in some way. (Remember that Android is an open source project so all of the source code is openly available for anyone to download, tweak, and reproduce.)

FLASHING

Flashing is easy to understand when you already know what ROM is. It is basically just LOADING a different ROM into your phone. Think of the word FLASHING as LOADING. Ugh. I know. The terms confused me for a while too.

Now that we all know the terms, I'd like to share with you the basic steps that helped me finish the process.

  1. go here http://forum.xda-developers.com and type "Root <PHONE_MODEL>" in the search bar
EXAMPLE: Root Samsung Galaxy Note OR Root GT-N7000

  2. follow the rooting instructions
NOTE:  The steps would require you to download some files to your phone.

  3.  research on the available custom ROMs for your phone model
    EXAMPLE: http://rootgalaxynote.com/category/galaxy-note-roms

  4. go here http://forum.xda-developers.com and type "Flash <ROM_THAT_YOU_LIKE>" in the search bar
EXAMPLE of flashing instructions: click this

  5. follow the flashing instructions again

...and you're done!

As for me, my phone now runs faster and has a better battery life. The custom ROM cut the “junk” out of the software to free up significant amount of memory. It also optimized the (kernel) software to improve the performance and even the UI.

NOW I AM A SATISFIED ANDROID USER. :-)

JUST REMEMBER TO FOLLOW THE STEPS VERY CAREFULLY OR YOU'LL END UP WITH A BRICK.

If you want to know more about rooting and flashing a custom ROM, just check the XDA Developers Forum. It's all there.

Let's all live the Android life one ROM at a time!
